About us

We were established by an Act of Parliament in 1964 and represent professionals like you to provide one strong voice for the sector.

Anyone can practice as a hairdresser or barber with no training or qualifications. Our aim is to get professionals like you the recognition you deserve and to reassure clients they are in safe hands.

We are funded by our sponsors and members and all our efforts are focused on gaining you the respect and professional recognition you deserve.

Professional registration is only £70 a year, or £50 a year if you are a Graduate or Associate. Trainees can join for free.
