Commercial Rents Update

The Government is introducing primary legislation and a new Code of Practice on 9th November in parliament to assist landlords and tenants who have been unable to resolve their disputes over rent arrears. Together, this sets out a clear path for both landlords and tenants to move from dispute to resolution.

Commercial tenants are protected from eviction until 25 March 2022, and the legally binding arbitration process will be established from 25 March in the Government’s aim to preserve otherwise viable businesses and the jobs they support and encourage landlords and tenants to resolve their rent disputes.

The code of practice and Bill will be published online soon.
