Letter to the Small Business Minister Jane Hunt MP

Date 12 Sep 2022

Letter to the Small Business Minister Jane Hunt MP, regarding the Prime Ministers statement to the House of Commons on 8th September 2022

Good afternoon Minister,

Regarding the Prime Ministers statement in the Commons on the 8th September regarding domestic and business support with energy prices.

Price cap on domestic energy prices of £2,500 from 1st October for 2 years. (With a £400 contribution to every household throughout the land)

Business – same price cap from 1st October but only for 6 months (no mention of a £400 contribution?). However, hospitality yet again was singled out intimating that hospitality, and mentioned pubs specifically, would be looked at beyond the 6 months….no mention yet again of the Personal care sector!

Our sector is in crisis Minister but yet again we are not mentioned or considered as being as important as the hospitality sector…this is SO wrong on many levels.

On behalf of the professional Hairdressing, Barbering and Beauty sector, can I ask you to look into this at your earliest opportunity and intervene to ensure our sector is protected against these huge increases beyond the 6 months already stated by the new Prime Minister.

Over the past few weeks, the Hair and Barber Council has sent to your department the hugely worrying results of a survey we have been running specifically about the huge financial pressures our members and the industry face, and financial help beyond 6 months is desperately needed for our sector to survive.

Both myself and our Chief Policy Officer, Collette Osborne (copied into this email) are at your disposal for any further information you might need,
